About Joe

Joe Arterburn is a freelance outdoor writer with credits in numerous outdoor publications and websites. He is also the founder of Arterburn Outdoors, a media-relations firm that connects outdoor media with outdoor brands in unique hunting-camp experiences.

After receiving a journalism degree, Arterburn worked as a reporter for daily newspapers for 10 years before joining Cabela’s during its heyday, ending his 23-year run there as corporate communications manager. His freelance career has included a variety of positions, including back-page “Offhand Shots” columnist for Outdoor Life; editor for the International Hunter Education Association USA; field editor of Predator & Prey magazine and co-founding editor (with Bill Bynum) of Cabela’s Outfitter Journal.

He has hunted and fished for numerous species throughout the continental United States as well as on multiple occasions in Alaska and internationally in Canada, Mexico and South Africa.

He lives in his native Nebraska with his wife, Cathy. They have three sons and six grandchildren (and counting.)
